A tragic love story unfolds as Su-dong and Ok-rang face opposition from her family and rival suitor Mu-ryeong, leading to betrayal, imprisonment, and a fatal series of events.

 

Su-dong (Jo Yong-su) and Ok-rang (Kim Sam-hwa) are engaged, but Mu-ryeong (Park Am), the son of a high-ranking official, is infatuated with Ok-rang. Ok-rang's mother, disapproving of Su-dong, seizes the chance to marry her daughter to Mu-ryeong with the help of his mother. Despite this, Su-dong's mother (Go Seon-ae) and Ok-rang's father (Kim Seung-ho) arrange a secret wedding for the young couple, who then flee to their village. However, Su-dong accidentally falls off a cliff while escaping Kim's servants. Ok-rang's father kills one of the servants in an attempt to protect her, leading to their imprisonment. Mu-ryeong proposes marriage to Ok-rang to cover up the murder, and she reluctantly agrees. After her release, Mu-ryeong takes her home, but Su-dong pursues them, intending to kill Mu-ryeong. When Ok-rang expresses her desire to marry Mu-ryeong, Su-dong, in despair, commits suicide. His mother and uncle bury him beside the road that Ok-rang's wedding coach will pass. As the coach passes Su-dong's grave, everyone’s feet become stuck. Su-dong's mother halts the coach and stabs Ok-rang, who then crawls to Su-dong's grave and dies.
